Hello, I am just starting to read different mangas. I have read Emma by Kaoru Mori. I really LOVE it! I was wondering what are some other great mangas that are similar to Emma. Brief description (for those who have not been blown away yet): Emma is a victorian maid who falls in love with a member of the gentry, but the gentry tries to prevent the love from blooming. I am not even sure if it is considered a "shojo" but it seems like it would fit the category. Thanks

It's technically a seinen, which is a category usually defined as "men's," but actually encompasses just about anything. Some examples of seinen: Yotsuba - a completely innocent manga about a crazy little girl Gantz - a brutally violent manga with lots of nudity (that doesn't really tell you anything about the plot, but I haven't read it, so... >.>) And, of course, there are shojo-like romance series, too. Seinen romances do tend to be less shallow than shojo romances, but of course it all depends on the manga. The MangaUpdates page for Emma lists two manga Prospect has in the top 5 recommended list on there, Mars and Kare Kano. They're both shojo and both have the infamous "shojo drama." I liked Mars a lot, but it can be very intense and very shojo (though it's not one of those shallow shojo). I didn't like Kare Kano very much. It's more of a school romantic comedy, but I didn't like the art and I don't remember it being very funny... Personally, I think I'd recommend xxxHolic. It's another seinen that the Prospect library has. It's a fantasy/comedy/romance, but it can be serious, too. You also might like Tsubasa (a shounen manga with romance), which crosses over with xxxHolic. I think you can get it from the MPPL. MangaUpdates page for xxxHolic: here

Well, thank you very much! I will make sure to check out those titles as soon as I have free time! Oh, and Dark Lord Chuckles, I think you need to stop so much chuckling or else you may become like Chuckles the Silly Piggy from Dave the Barbarian. Just a warning.
