Why should Prospect have a Japanese Anime Manga Manhwa Club?
Prospect’s Japanese Anime Manga Manhwa Club would be a great opportunity for many of the students at our school. It has many social benefits that would unite fans and enthusiasts from all grade levels to get together for a common interest. We also find it just as important to teach students who do not know about anime and are interested in learning about it. We have many possible ideas for activities in our club. One ideas is to make a publication featuring literature, reviews of various movies, art, anime, and various other cultural aspects. We would also feature art ranging from comics to single pieces. This publication would be gathered together by the members of the club and round revolve around an anime theme. As an anime club, we would like to talk about and watch different anime and read manga and manhwa.
We would also like everyone to know that this is a club were we just like to have fun. We will try to be open to as many activities as possible. Practicing calligraphy and writing Haiku poems are some of the more literary activities in the club, while cooking and eating Asian foods are another option. A big part of the anime fandom is cosplay. Other activities may include wearing and possibly making costumes and maybe even traditional Japanese clothing! Japan and Korea have a wide variety of music. We also think it would be fun to try practicing some customs during meetings and club activities, such as eating with chop sticks. We believe that a large portion of the club members will be interested in art. We would like to try practicing with different styles and creating various comics, single pieces, or any kind of art relating to the unique Japanese and Korean styles. We would also want to have critiques and discussions about each other’s art to help each other learn more. Video animations can be made for personal reasons or public display. If we plan on going on field trips, we would like have fundraisers to raise money for them. The club will be a great way to make new friends and establish new relationships. We are all students that share similar interests. We hope that many students will make new friends.
Why can’t learning be fun? As the Japanese Anime Manga Manhwa Club, we believe that it can be helpful to learn about the cultural contexts of anime and manga. We plan on sharing current knowledge about Japanese and Korean languages and cultures with those interested and also learning new things. Some customs we may focus on are the foods, clothing, and music. Some of us would also like to talk about J- and K-bands we enjoy and learn and listen to all types of different music. We will look at literature and possibly learn about what religions are practiced there. We will be sure to keep any studies of religions in secular contexts and will never pressure anyone to do anything they feel uncomfortable with. Because art is such an important part of this club, we will learn about the many different styles of art and it’s relation to culture/language. We will watch video animations and learn about the traditional art of the area. We have a lot to accomplish in this club, and we’ll always be busy!
